Vancouver, B.C.-based Swollen Members have created quite the name for themselves. Formed in the mid-’90s, the crew is made up of MCs Mad Child (Shane Bunting) and Prevail (Kiley Hendriks), and DJ/producer Rob the Viking.

Over the years, they’ve proven their worth in many MC battles and have earned the distinction of being one of three hip-hop groups affiliated with the exclusive Rock Steady Crew. They’ve performed with Ghostface Killah, Everlast, and Hieroglyphics among others, and many of their friends in the hip-hop world appear on their six albums.

While in Colorado last February touring with Ghostface Killah “people were jumping to every song that we were playing,” says Rob the Viking. “They were jumping so much that, by the fifth song of our set, they cracked four beams in the floor and they had to evacuate the club that was downstairs, and ultimately evacuate the whole building and shut the club down. So, we actually did bring the house down that night.”

Swollen Members is coming to the Nightlight Lounge on Wednesday — fortunately it is located in a basement if you want to jump your heart out. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 at the door. Check them out at www.swollenmembers.com or www.myspace.com/swollenmembers.
