The formation of the band followed some soul-searching in which Lenker discovered an appreciation for bluegrass greats Doc Watson and Norman Blake. Though bluegrass started him on the road to learning who he is now, his fourth solo album, King of Hearts, moves into groundbreaking roots-rock while maintaining wide appeal.
Lenker split his time between the Pacific Northwest and Nashville until April, when the demands became great enough that he made the move to Nashville full time. The move will allow him further recognition, beyond that already garnered by performing at the Sasquatch! Music and Bumbershoot festivals.
Korby Lenker Band, the Barbed Wire Cutters and David Stray Ney Orchestra perform Dec. 20 at the Wild Buffalo, with a $7 cover. Advance tickets can be bought at www.wildbuffalo.net. For more information on Korby Lenker, visit www.korbylenker.com.
